DICTIONARIES

To add dictionaries to Openoffice you can either use the ''Install new dictionaries ''Wizard (File/Wizards) or the following document. For additional languages check the extensions site. More info at the Openoffice dictionaries wiki.

EXTENSIONS

Openoffice

  • Linguist: creates a list of all the words from a document that are not recognized during spell checking.
  • Sun PDF Import (Beta): imports PDF documents into Draw and Impress to allow basic editing (requires OpenOffice.org 3.0).
  • Compose Special Characters (Writer and Calc): type two or three characters and then run a macro to convert them into a single accented or special character.
  • EuroOffice Dictionary (English, German and French): dictionary toolbar. Displays translations automatically, replace words with a translation with a single click, among other features. Add new dictionaries from CSV files.
  • EasyDict: dictionary to look up definitions from |definr.
  • Tabbed Windows Extension: provides a tabbed window interface.
  • Bookmarks Menu: adds a favourites menu on the menubar.
  • Multidiff: save OpenOffice.org documents in several formats and/or send them by mail.
  • DateTime2 (Writer/Calc): six functions to insert date or time or time stamp, as text/string or field/value.
  • OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs: Export and Import your documents to and from Google Docs.
  • OoGdocsIntegrator: Integration with Google Docs and Zoho. Upload and download of multiple documents (Text, Spreadsheet, Presentation) to Zoho and Google Docs, history of actions and search function within your online documents.
  • BorderLiner (Calc and Writer): simple method to draw borders in tables and some text elements.
  • Template Changer: allows to assign a new template to the current document.
  • Professional Template Pack (Writer, Calc, Draw and Impress): More than 80 templates, among business, cover pages, certificates, presentations, expenses, etc.
  • OxygenOffice Extras - Templates.
  • Creative Commons Licensing (Writer, Calc and Impress): embed a Creative Commons license and a visible notice in your documents.
  • CropOOo (Draw and Impress): easy way to crop images.
  • Lorem ipsum generator: generates Lorem ipsum dummy text.
  • Quoots: find and open documents easily and fill in data automatically from a database (as for example customers details).
  • Last Session: store the URLs of all open OOo-Documents into an Ini-File and reload them all in the next session.
  • eTOK (Openoffice standalone application): a program to create eTraining projects or Web 2.0 applications for marketing purposes, promotion material, sales support and technical documentation.
  • OooDIP (Document Info Patcher): meta information editor (not available yet, hopefully soon).
  • FastMailMerge: picks up a list of data from a spreadsheet as a database, placing markers field in a text document, automating the printing or sending mail, as doc, odt, pdf or html.

Writer

  • Anaphraseus: CAT tool compatible with Wordfast Translation Memory format (*.TXT). Includes text segmentation, term recognition and fuzzy search. For more info check the Anaphraseus Manual Repository.
  • LanguageTool: Rule-based language checker for English, German, Polish, Dutch and other languages (does not include a spell checker).
  • Writer's Tools: Multiple tools such as Lookup Tool, Google Translate, Show on the Map, Email Backup, Multi-format Backup, Remote Backup, Start/Stop Timer, Add to Basket tool (is designed to quickly add text snippets, links, and notes to the supplied database), miniInvoices, etc.
  • Pagination: macro that adds a an 'Insert/Page number' dialog to writer.
  • ParaDTP: opens a small window where to change font spacing.
  • The Annotation Tool: create a note referring to a highlighted text or delete all notes in a document with a single click.
  • Text Clipboard: makes possible to select multi-line text block (column block).
  • TestFonts: Searches for all font faces used in a Writer document and compare it with fonts available in system. Reporting for missing font faces, all used fonts and get statistic available system fonts.
  • Zotero's Openoffice Integration: Zotero is a Firefox extension to help you collect, manage, and cite research sources. Zotero's plugin makes it easy to cite items from your Zotero library in OpenOffice documents.

Calc

Impress

  • Sun Presentation Minimizer: reduces the file size of the current presentation by compressing images and removing data that is no longer needed.
  • Evoice: easily embed voice comments in your slides.

Base

  • Sun Report Builder: Create database reports (group and page headers and footers, and even calculation fields).
  • Report Runner: launch Base reports from any registered database. Output: screen, default printer or save to Writer or PDF file.

MACROS

Found at OOoMacros.

  • Multipages (Calc, Draw, Impress): button in a tool bar which displays a panel to choose the current page among many pages; add, duplicate, delete or rename many empty pages in one action; and change the order of the pages (Calc).
  • Extended PDF: improved PDF export capabilities.
  • Document Converter: utility to convert a batch of documents.
  • Change Case: collection of macros to change case, such as 'Sentence case', 'Title Case', and 'Invert (Toggle) Case'.
  • Add2dic: Add words to a dictionary with a single keystroke.
